Students at all levels need the ability to distinguish fact from fiction in order to engage with and contribute to the world around them in an increasingly digital economy. Join us on Tuesday, December 5th at 4:15pm – 5:15 in the UBC Education Library, Scarfe 155, to meet with the educators from MediaSmarts, a Canadian not-for-profit charitable organization for digital and media literacy. From their website: Our vision is that children and youth have the critical thinking skills to engage with media as active and informed digital citizens.

Learn to equip your students to successfully and ethically navigate the digital world. Engage in conversation about essential digital literacy skills and competencies, understand the digital experiences of Canadian youth, and familiarize yourself with the resources and tools that are available through the digital literacy framework and Media Smarts web site for use in your own school.

MediaSmarts is on campus today only to provide morning workshops at the Teacher Candidate mini-conference and this one after school session geared to practicing teachers, support teachers, teacher librarians and anyone interested in educating students about digital and media literacy.
