Join UBC’s Geering Up for this in-person workshop exploring the interplay between the arts and STEM subjects. Using knowledge of forces, participants navigate the engineering design process, crafting sculptures that blend structural integrity with artistic and aesthetic appeal. Starting with a small base, you will construct the widest possible structure using your knowledge of forces, while also incorporating some artistic expression. Additionally, you will explore famous sculptures around the world to draw from for inspiration, creating a piece that has meaning and physical integrity. This challenge can be modified, helping to incorporate a variety of art concepts, science, and engineering principles. Geared for grades 4-8 (but could be adapted for older or younger students).
