During our session, we can help you with finding & evaluating resources to support your planning, suggest approaches to planning & teaching or work with your to get started or refine your Unit or Lesson plans.
Before our session, we recommend looking at these resources to get a sense of what you can find through UBC Library. All of these resources can be accessed using your CWL.

If you’re looking for: Planning templates or information about BC Curriculum
- This UBC Teacher Ed Learning Design Resource blog includes tips for planning and houses templates & resources developed by local school districts specifically for planning for BC curriculum.

- Try: Search Power Hand-out
- The Search Power guide provides you with the preferred key terms to use when searching the Library catalogue (which is based on Library of Congress).

• Open Access Repositories are also good places to search for teaching materials, lessons, and research relevant to the K-12 BC curriculum. Since these resources are Open Access, anyone can browse and download the resources for classroom or professional use. Try Teach BC or OER Commons

Try: Xwi7xwa Library
• Xwi7xwa Library is the centre for academic and community Indigenous scholarship at UBC. Look for their guides on Children’s and Young Adult Literature and Primary Sources for K-12 Teachers

• Curio provides high-quality, Canadian digital learning resources that align with Canadian curriculum and are relevant for K-12 classrooms.
If you’re looking for: Social Studies books, photographs, and other learning resources
Try: KnowBC
• KnowBC is an online encyclopaedia featuring BC content. This includes photographs, booklists, and news articles. KnowBC’s resources are particularly well-suited for a Middle years Social Studies classroom.
If you’re looking for: Picture books, juvenile fiction, YA novels
Try: UBC Education Library Booklists, UBC Library’s Great Reads Collection or UBC Education Library’s Young Adult Literature Guide
• The UBC Education Library’s booklists feature books that are relevant to the k-12 curriculum. Each list features titles about current and historical topics in education, pedagogy, and the BC K-12 curriculum.
• UBC Library’s Great Reads collection features leisure reading including literary classics, fiction, non-fiction and more.
• UBC Education Library’s Young Adult Literature Guide features reading lists for children and young adults. Here, you can also find examples of illustrated e-books.
