Yousician is an app that supports students learning how to play the piano, guitar, ukulele or bass. There are many songs and different genres to choose from, such as folk, jazz and pop, and students may even upload their own songs. It is free to use but there are in-app purchases for more songs, lessons, and additional options.
This app is relevant for teachers who want to encourage students to practice on their own. Teachers can assign particular songs and the app provides students with ongoing feedback as they practice at home. Teachers can also assign workouts for ear training as well as numerous scales, chords and techniques. Teachers can gather feedback from the students’ app statistics to follow their progress.
Students can download the Yousician app on their tablet. There are 15 different levels so students can start at the level they are comfortable with. The music sheet highlights note by note while students play along on their instrument. The app can detect if they are playing the song correctly and will provide feedback.
