My colleagues in UBC’s Faculty of Education Educational Technology Support team have developed some excellent video resources to support instructors in designing learning online. While typically UBC Instructors utilize Canvas as a learning management system, these resources are tool agnostic and, instead, take up important pedagogical considerations when designing online learning.
At the time of writing this post (April 2020), the following videos (developed and narrated by Stoo Sepp) included:
- Time (looking at synchronous and asynchronous options in online learning environments including instructor preparation considerations)
- Presence (how to connect with your students and other aspects of instructor presence)
- Measurement (measuring learning, analytics and assessment in an online course – what you can and can’t measure online)

A tip for Youtube viewing: did you know that you can view the transcript of a video if closed captioning has been properly enabled (as it has with these expertly created videos!)?
